Back in 2019 Education Ministers said all Australian children can greatly benefit by building partnerships between schools and local First Nations communities*. We agree, and now it's time for Ministers to put their 'money where their mouthes are'.

Dear Minister,

I support the Know Your Country campaign's call for Federal, State and Territory Parliaments to fund ALL primary schools ready to employ local First Nations Cultural Educators. I'm thrilled by the prospect of all Australian children benefiting directly from these roles. It will mean teachers are supported for an hour a week to authentically implement the existing First Nations curriculum at a local level, in partnership with local First Nations communities.

By supporting this policy you will be building the capacity of our educators and the education system to be centred on the local First Nations Country, people, culture and language.

First Nations communities should be able to share the wisdom of their own culture in schools. I'm calling on you to fund these positions - many schools and First Nations communities are ready to build this relationship. It's your responsibility to ensure both are resourced and supported.

By championing this policy in our State you will empower our education system to evolve and create deeper learning opportunities for ALL students. It will hold space for local First Nations communities in a truly more inclusive education system.

Imagine the difference it will make for our nation's future to be enriched by local First Nations Cultural Educators in every school directly sharing their peoples’ ways of doing, being and knowing. I want the next generation of students to receive the gift of ancient wisdom from the world's oldest cultures that I missed out on in my school education.
